Yeah Write for Windows 1.7
Released on the Internet

Orem, UT--Word Place, Inc. today released on the Internet a new version of Yeah Write, its popular Windows word processor.  Version 1.7 is a minor release.  It's primary purpose is to fix two problems with the Print Merge feature and a problem with the E-mail Broadcast feature.  Two new features were added as well.

Prior to version 1.7, the YW editor supported some HTML tags in e-mail messages (character styles like bold, underline, italics, and paragraph styles like left/right indent, headings and bullets), but did not directly support true HTML.  Users acquainted with HTML can now add "real" HTML code to their e-mail messages, giving them the possibility of adding colors, graphics, and font changes to their messages (but not their YW documents).

YW now supports Comma Separated text (CSV) to it's list of export/import formats.  This may not be too helpful for importing information, because for an import to work correctly the field order of the data has to match the field order in Yeah Write.  This may, however, help users get information out of the Yeah Write database.

The upgrade to version 1.7 is free to those who previously purchased the program. The price for new customers is $29 without media, and $39 plus shipping for the CD version. The Internet shareware release still comes with a free version for those who do not want to purchase the full product.

Yeah Write for Windows 1.6
Released on the Internet

The Minor Release Adds a Thesaurus and Better Search

Orem, UT--Word Place, Inc. today released on the Internet a new version of Yeah Write, its popular Windows word processor.  The new release comes with a thesaurus and a more powerful search capability.  The price for the Internet version of Yeah Write is now $29.  If downloaded from the Internet, the upgrade is free to existing customers.  There is a $10 charge to request the program on a CD.

The thesaurus, which comes in a separate download file, works with the full version and the 15 day free trial.  The new search, which lets the writer search through all folders and drawers, also requires a full version.

Yeah Write for Windows 1.5
Released on the Internet

One Step Closer to a Full-Featured Word Processor

Orem, UT--Word Place, Inc. today released on the Internet a new version of Yeah Write, its popular Windows word processor.  Although the new release adds a number of new features, including e-mail broadcast, print merge, abbreviations, and RTF support, the program remains very small, very fast, and very easy to use.  The price for the Internet version of Yeah Write remains at $29.  If downloaded from the Internet, the upgrade is free to existing customers.  There is a $10 charge if a new CD is requested.

New Features

Abbreviations—With Options | Abbreviation, you can define an abbreviation. The abbreviation can stand for a phrase, a paragraph, or a group of paragraphs, and can include character and paragraph styles. Then when you type the abbreviation in the text portion of a document, YW automatically inserts the corresponding text. For example, wpi could insert Word Place, Inc.

Broadcast E-mail—If you write an e-mail message, you can now send it to everyone with an e-mail address in your address book. You can also send it to selected persons with e-mail addresses in the address book. If needed, you can indicate a pause between messages so you don’t overrun your SMTP server.

HTML E-Mail Messages—When sending e-mail messages, you can send them as Text Only or as HTML and Text. HTML and Text is the normal or default setting, but you can change to Text Only with the File | E-Mail Options dialog. HTML and Text messages, while bigger, can include character styles (bold, italics, etc.) and paragraph styles (center, indent, headings, etc.). Most of today’s e-mail readers handle HTML messages, however, those that don’t almost always can display the text portion.

Print Merge—You can now print copies of a letter or memo using the entries in your address book. In addition to printing one copy for every person in an address tab, you can print copies for selected addresses.

Quick Special Characters—In addition to the normal ways of entering special characters like ñ and ç, you can use the Ctrl key to enter them quickly. Typing n, then Ctrl+~, enters an ñ in your document. Typing an e, then a Ctrl+ ', enters an é in your document.

RTF Support—Import and Export (Save As) and Cut/Copy/Paste now support RTF (rich text format). Our RTF translation supports text, special characters, character attributes found in both versions, and some paragraph styles (center and flush right). Cut/Copy/Paste likely provides the easiest way to move text to and from Yeah Write and other products supporting RTF.

Subscripts/Superscripts—YW now supports subscripts and superscripts from either the Style pull down menu or F7.

Time and Date Stamp—In a text field in any document, Ctrl+Shift+d enters today’s date, and Ctrl+Shift+t enters the current time.

Internet URL Support—When you double-click on a word, YW selects the words. Then it checks to see if the word could be an Internet URL address.  If it is, YW attempts to launch the browser with that address. If not, YW highlights the selected word.

Improvements

Character Styles Key—F7, formally the Italics key and now labeled I+ (italics plus), displays the Character Style dialog. From this dialog you can turn the following character styles (attributes) on and off: bold, italics, subscript, superscript, and underline. Character styles are also found on the Style pull down menu. Ctrl+I still turns italics on and off.

Headings and Titles—There are three improvements to headings and titles: 1) you can now include character styles in your headings and titles; 2) if there is too little room to print a portion of a paragraph after a title or heading, the title or heading prints on the next page; and 3) you can now choose either Arial or the document font when printing headings and titles (Arial was almost always used previously).

Index View—In earlier versions, typing a letter with the document window closed would take you to the first entry in the index that starts with that letter. With the new Name Search, you can narrow your search with each character you type. Previously typing P, then E, and then T would take you to the first P entry, then the first E entry, and then the first T entry. Now typing PET would take you to the first entry matching PET (Peters, for example). Also, if you click on one of the labels at the top of the index view, and if there is a sort list for that label, then YW will automatically re-sort the index entries. For example, in the General tab, you can sort by date or by description. With the document window closed, clicking on Description re-sorts the list of documents, and, since Text does not have an index, clicking on Text does not re-sort the documents.

Install with Long Filenames—The install program that comes with Yeah Write is still a 16 bit application. If you entered a long filename for the YW directory in previous versions, the installation would fail. Now the installer truncates the long filename to an 8 character filename and successfully finishes the installation. Someday we will include a 32-bit installer to correct this inconvenience.

Speller—If you click Skip or Replace by mistake when doing a spell check, you can click the new Previous button to go back to that previous point in the document. Also, when you Print a document containing words not found in the dictionary, you’ll see a Spell Check button in the Print dialog. You can, of course, ignore this little reminder.

Yeah Write for Windows 1.4
Released on the Internet

Retail version now available

Orem, UT--Word Place, Inc. has posted a new version of its popular Windows word processor on the Internet. The new version 1.4 is a relatively minor upgrade prompted primarily by the release of a retail version of Yeah Write. The price of the Internet version remains at $29.00 US. The new boxed version, available through Ingram (sku#479303), is expected to have a street price of $29 in US stores.

New Documents
There are three new documents available in the new release. Messages is designed for phone messages. The Book Report is a new document especially for students. The new Text tab and changes to Import/Export (Save As) now make it possible for the customer to edit text or program files.

Other Changes
A few customers have asked for a way to include single-spaced long quotes in a document using a book, double-spaced print style. To make this possible, we've changed a Left/Right Indent paragraph to print single-spaced. We added another way to get to the title page (File | Title Page), a pass over prompt to identify different parts of a document, and a few new shortcut keys. We've also added an auto-backup feature to go along with the backup/restore features already included in the program.

Customers who have previously purchased a full copy of Yeah Write may download and use the new product for free. As with the previous release, the Yeah Write Internet product includes a free version, a free 15 day trial of the full version, and a full version which requires a name and registration number. The size of the new download file is actually smaller than version 1.2 and now includes the kids documents.

Word Place Releases New 3-in-1
Yeah Write for Windows 1.2

Price is free, or a low $29 for registered version;
Update is free to registered 1.0 and 1.1 users.

Orem, UT--The new Yeah Write for Windows 1.2, in addition to having many new and improved features, is shareware at its best, with freeware, trialware and full package software together in one small download. Available in both 32 bit (for Windows 95 and NT) and 16 bit (for Windows 3.1) versions, the price of the full package is a low $29. The update is free to those customers who previously purchased the product.

Three Products in One
Those customers looking for free software can download version 1.2 and choose the "free software, hide all paid features" option. This turns off all but one of the "nag" screens (those messages which remind users to purchase the full software) and avoids a "hobbleware" look. That one message, which can be turned off after one viewing, offers the customer a free, 15 day trial of the full package. With a phone call or a visit to the Word Place web site, a customer can purchase and use the full product without having to download new software. The download file is only 1.1. MB for the 32 bit version, and 1.0 MB for the 16 bit version.

New Full Version Features
Yeah Write uses a fill-in-the-blanks approach to word processing. In addition to the many documents already available, the new version supports a To Do list, and One-Up Labels (for printers like the CoStar and Seiko label printers). A new "kids" drawer adds a simpler address book, room for school assignments, and a tab for school papers. A new international drawer makes writing letters, memos, and faxes in other languages much easier (international users can edit all printed text). The new backup and restore feature lets customers backup and restore their documents in a compressed format, either to a local or network drive, or to an FTP site (assuming the user has read/write access to an FTP site). Printing with full justification is now an option. A word count is now available.

Improved Full Version Features
While previous versions had only a US English dictionary, version 1.2 offers 11 new dictionaries, including medical, British, Danish, Dutch, French, Finish, German, Italian, Portuguese Brazil, Spanish, and Swedish (available by separate download at no extra cost). Users can check spelling with up to two dictionaries at a time. Five print styles are added to the address book to support label printing for five different label formats (2-up, 3-up, and 4-up for 8.5 by 11, and 2-up and 3-up for A4). Support for network drawers is improved substantially. The 32 bit version includes printing support for international date formats.

Improvements to the Free Version
All customers can use the new Uninstall, more background textures, the improved Undo, and edited color schemes (including two with black characters on a white background).
